History
- Jun. 4, 1874
- Neiraku Shoin private school was established in the precincts of Kofukuji Temple. The private school was to meet the needs of training teachers and was also called Kyouin Densyuu-jo.
- Mar. 1, 1875
- The Kyouin Densyuu-jo was renamed Nara Normal School for Primary Education.
- Jul. 31, 1888
- Nara Prefectural Normal School for Primary Education was established. The campus for the school was a leased area of a park. The address of the park was 23 Nobori-Ohji, Oh-aza, Nara-machi. (The inauguration ceremony for the school was held on 18th November in the same year when it was established.)
- Apr. 1, 1898
- Nara Prefectural Normal School for Primary Education was renamed Nara Prefectural Normal School in accordance with Educational Acts for Normal Schools.
- Apr. 1, 1905
- Nara Prefectural Women's Normal School was established. (Accordingly, Women's Department of Nara Prefectural Normal School was abolished.)
- Apr. 1, 1943
- Nara Prefectural Normal School and Nara Prefectural Women's Normal School were nationalized and merged. Both of them, hereby, were renamed Nara Normal School. All these changes were made in accordance with the amendments for Educational Acts for Normal Schools.
- Apr. 1, 1944
- Teachers' Training Center of Nara Prefectural Young Men's School and Temporary Teachers' Training Department attached to the school were nationalized and merged. Hereby, they were renamed Young Men's Normal School of Nara Prefecture.
- May 31, 1949
- Nara Normal School and Young Men's Normal School of Nara prefecture were merged. Nara University of Liberal Arts, hereby, was established in accordance with Acts for Establishing National Schools.
- Oct. 10, 1958
- University Campus was transferred to Nara "C" Area allotted to American Occupation Forces. University Campus is still situated in the area (Takabatake-cho).
- Apr. 1, 1966
- Nara University of Liberal Arts was renamed Nara University of Education in accordance with the amendments for Acts for Establishing National Schools (Amendment No.48 in 1967) Training Course for Teachers for Handicapped Children was established.
- Apr. 1, 1983
- Graduate School of Education Master's Course was established.
- Nov. 18, 1988
- The Ceremony for Centennial Anniversary of Establishment of the University was held.
- Apr. 1, 1992
- pecial Course for Teachers for Special Education (Postgraduate Course) Major of Education for Emotionally-Disturbed Children was established.
- Apr. 1, 1995
- Integrated Cultural Studies and Sciences Course was established.
- Apr. 1, 1999
- Department of Teacher Training and School Education was established. Department of Comprehensive Education was established.
- Apr. 1, 2004
- The National University Corporation Nara University of Education was established under the legislation of National University Corporation Law. Reorganization of the Graduate School of Education Master's Course.
- Apr. 1, 2007
- Special Course for Teachers for Special Education (Postgraduate Course) Major of Education for Emotionally-Disturbanced Children was renamed Special Course for Teachers for Special Support Education Major of Education for Emotionally-Disturbanced Children and Developmental Disable Children.
- Apr. 1, 2008
- School of Professional Development in Education was established. Reorganization of the Graduate School of Education Master's Course.
- Nov. 22, 2008
- The Ceremony for 120th Anniversary of Establishment of the University was held.
- Mar. 24, 2011
- Reorganized the University Affiliated Centers into the Educational and Academic Support Organization.
- Apr. 1, 2012
- Reorganization of the Faculty of Education. (Recruited entire admission capacity of 255 students to the Department of Teacher Training and School Education, and stopped recruiting for the Department of Comprehensive Education.)
- Oct. 1, 2012
- Office for Promoting Collaboration of Three Universities of Education in Kyoto, Osaka and Nara was established.
- Apr. 1, 2014
- Reorganized the University Affiliated Centers.
- Apr. 1, 2016
- Reorganization of the Graduate School of Education. (Accordingly, the Special Course for Teachers for Special Support Education Major was abolished. )
- Sep. 1, 2017
- The Regional Education and Research Hub was established.Staff organization was unified.
- Jul. 27, 2018
- Collaborative conference agreement with Nara Women's University was signed.
- Jun.28, 2019
- Agreement with Nara Women’s University concerning the establishment of National University Corporation Nara was signed.
- Apr. 1, 2022
- Nara National Institute of Higher Education and Research was established through a corporate merger with Nara Women's University. Reorganized the University Affiliated Centers. School of Professional Development in Education and Master's Program were reorganized.
